Clay intrigues me with its willingness to adapt to the hands that form it, while at the same time having a fragile disposition if mishandled. Fibers can be manipulated into abstractions of color, texture and form using traditional techniques and unexpected materials. These hybrid sculptures combine the softness and agency of textiles with the solidity of pottery into nonsensical, yet relatable, vessels that don’t hold water.
With all their imperfections, they embrace the failures, frayed edges and slumped forms as opportunities to emphasize the precariousness of the material and, by association, life.
